Cop Impersonators Run Off with $20K in Stolen Loot After Home Invasion: Police

The man, wearing some type of police hat and T-shirt with an embroidered badge, held up a piece of paper and told the resident he had a search warrant, police say

Four men believed to be impersonating police officers made off with $20,000 worth of stolen cash and luxury items in a San Fernando Valley home invasion Friday night, officials said.

A man knocked on the front door of the home in the 19000 block of Vanowen Street in Reseda about 8:15 p.m., Los Angeles Police Sgt. Graham said. When a 7-year-old child answered the door, the man identified himself as an officer.

Wearing some type of police hat and polo shirt with an embroidered badge, a man held up a piece of paper and told the resident he had a search warrant, which he refused to show to the residents, Graham said.

The man then told the people inside - two women and three children - to wait in the bedroom, police said. The resident told police two or three other voices could be heard.

The thief or thieves made off with some $20,000 worth of items, police said.

Police say residents who feel unsure about the identity of an officer can ask to see proof, such as an ID card or badged, or call 911 to ask to have uniformed officers present.

Anyone with information on the home invasion should call LAPD.
