Shallow Quake Rattles Costa Mesa

A preliminary magnitude-2.4 earthquake hit Costa Mesa on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The shallow temblor struck at 3:31 p.m. at a depth of about a mile, the USGS reported. The epicenter was in the 3000 block of Cassia Avenue, according to coordinates on the agency's website.

Residents across Orange County reported feeling the jolt, including in Anaheim, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach and Irvine.
