Beaches Reopen After Shark Sighting at Bolsa Chica

A two-mile stretch was closed to swimmers and surfers, but the beach area was still open.

Orange County beaches were reopened Monday morning, a day after being shut down to swimmers and surfers after a shark sighting, according to California State Parks.

The shark sighting occurred Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington Beach, prompting a partial closure spanning 2-miles.

The sandy beach area was still open, but swimmers and surfers were advised to stay out of the water.

A surfer told lifeguards that he was bumped by a shark near Tower 16.

Per protocol, lifeguards closed a mile north and south of the tower, Huntington Beach lifeguard Lt. Claude Panis.
