One person was killed and at least three others were wounded when a fight broke out between rival gangs at a baptism party in South Los Angeles on Saturday, July 6, 2013.

Police arrested a man in his 20s in connection with violence that broke out after an argument erupted into a fatal shooting at a South Los Angeles baptism party, police said.

The melee broke out Saturday night near 127th and Hoover streets, where rival gangs were unwittingly invited and girlfriends from each side got into an argument, said Sgt. Wes Lin of the Los Angeles Police Department Southeast Station.

Details were sketchy, but somebody pulled a gun and fatally shot another man and someone pulled a knife and stabbed a 17-year-old boy.

The stabbing victim had a collapsed lung and was listed in critical condition at a hospital, according to LAPD detective Chris Valento.

A teenage girl also suffered a gunshot wound, officials said.

    No other details were available.

Police said they were withholding the name of the man in custody because they were looking for another man in connection with the violence and didn't want to tip him off, Valento said.
