In-N-Out Burger Confrontation Leads to Stolen Police Car Chase, Crash

A man was taken into custody Monday night after he allegedly stole a police cruiser before it collided with another cruiser in Pasadena, police said.

The crash occurred at Claremont Street and Lake Avenue around 10 p.m. after police responded to an In-N-Out Burger restaurant regarding a report of a man blocking the driveway and threatening to shoot, according to a news release.

Officers found the man several blocks away at a business in the 2200 block of E. Foothill Boulevard. The man then struck the officer's police car with a metal object. The officers confronted the man and ordered him to drop the weapon but he refused, according to the news release.

Officer used a "less lethal" weapon on the man which had minimal affect.

The man then took possession of a police car and a pursuit ensued on surface streets for about 8 miles and lasted about 12 minutes.

The chase ended when another police vehicle deliberately struck the stolen cruiser, according to the news release.

The man then exited the car through the driver window and climbed on top. Police used a Taser. The man jumped off the police car and landed on his feet and was taken into custody.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was in stable condition. The man sustained injuries that were not life threatening, according to the news release.

Police said the man had threatened employees at the In-N-Out and assaulted a janitor prior to the pursuit.

The man faces several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, grand theft auto, felony vandalism, and evading police, according to the news release.
