Man Fights Back in Studio City Carjacking Attempt

One of the victims jumped out of the car and chased the robbers.

In a quiet Studio City neighborhood, two friends said they were sitting in a Lexus talking when three robbers opened the back door of the car, piled in and demanded money.

The attempted carjacking ended with one of the men getting shot and a manhunt for the carjackers ensued.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene of the attempted carjacking in the 4300 block of Babcock Avenue near Woodbridge Street.

One of the victims, who didn't want to reveal his identity, told NBC4 that one of the robbers pulled out a gun and held it to his friends head.

He said his friend suddenly started to fight back, and the robbers jumped out of the car.

That was when his friend began chasing the robbers.

"He reached for the gun, they jumped out, chased him and shot him - he was down," one of the victims said.

The carjackers turned back and shot the victim in the leg. He is expected to survive, authorities said.

Officers advise victims to never chase robbers in situations such as this.

"It's a tough call how you're going to handle that," Capt. Brian Whitten of the LAPD said. "I wouldn't want anybody pointing a gun at me."

The victims did not have a description as they said it all happened so fast.
