Plumes of Smoke Billow Into Air in Sun Valley After Junkyard Fire

A monster Sun Valley junkyard went up in flames Sunday, sending a large plume of black smoke into the air.

Firefighters were battling the blaze in the 9000 block of Tujunga Avenue at 3:50 p.m.

Initially, fire officials said 15 cars were on fire, but the blaze quickly spread to many more.

Winds were blowing at 10 to 15 mph, LAFD said.

There were no structures threatened and no one was injured, according to fire officials.

The fire was knocked down at 6:30 p.m. after 150 firefighters battled the blaze for two hours.

A second blaze began burning about 17 miles away in Chatsworth after 5 p.m., contributing to the smoke in the air in the Valley area. It was extinguished as well.
