Suspected Gunman Arrested in Venice Boardwalk Shooting

A suspected gunman was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a homeless man on the Venice Boardwalk in August, police announced Friday.

Francisco Guzman was located in Los Angeles by the FBI-LAPD Fugitive Task Force on Monday. He was arrested on a charge of murder and his bail was set at $3 million, the LAPD said in a news release.

Police responded to a call of a shooting around 2 a.m. August 30 at Ocean Front Walk and Dudley Avenue.

Jascent-Jamal Warren, 26, was found not breathing and unresponsive on the boardwalk. The second victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

Witnesses said the attack followed a dispute that began after a group of homeless people gathered outside of Cadillac Hotel on Dudley Avenue.

Sris Sinnathamby, the owner of the hotel, was charged with murder Sept. 1 in connection with the shooting. Prosecutors said he didn't kill Warren, but he may have directed the attack.

The incident led to discussion of an ordinance that would not allow people to sleep, sit or lie in a public street or sidewalk during nighttime or overnight hours, to further avoid similar conflicts.
