    Port Authority officials say there was a security failure at 1 World Trade Center this week, making it the fourth known breach at the nation's tallest tower since September. 

    A spokesperson said a man with an appointment in the building walked through an open gate at 1 WTC where a construction truck was exiting just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The man, who was carrying a backpack, walked past a security guard who apparently was not paying attention.

    The man was stopped two minutes later by another guard, the building's second line of defense. He was escorted out of the area and no charges were filed.

    Security clearance for the first guard has been revoked, officials said. An employee of Summitt Securities in New Jersey, he's not expected to continue working at 1 World Trade, though the status of his employment is not clear. 

    Though the breach was minor, it marked another incident in a growing number of mishaps at the tower. Last month, a New Jersey teenager was arrested for allegedly sneaking onto the site and climbing to the top of the 1,776-foot tower to take pictures. About two weeks later, three skydiving enthusiasts were arrested for parachuting off the building in September.

    A New Jersey teenager fascinated by the construction of 1 World Trade Center scrambled though a hole in a fence at ground zero in the middle of the night and made his way past several layers of security to the top of the tower, where he took pictures for hours.     Two CNN producers were also arrested after they allegedly tried to push through a gate and climb a fence. 

    The building's head of security resigned in late March after the security mishaps. 

    Officials call the latest incident a misunderstanding but news of another issue at the site worried neighbor Chris Atkins.

    "It's about who's managing the security, who's on top of these things," he said. "Any job we have today, you have to manage the workforce. If they're not doing it correctly, it will slip through the cracks."
