Angry Police Officer Is Behind Bloody Tsarnaev Photos

The Massachusetts police officer who took the photographs released Thursday of bloodied Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has reportedly been relieved of duty until his status is reviewed next week. Boston Magazine first published the photos Thursday of Tsarnaev emerging from the trailered boat where he was found and captured by police after a days-long manhunt around Boston. The tactical police photographer, Sgt. Sean Murphy, who took the photos — which show Tsarnaev with a sniper's laser trained on his forehead — was inspired to release them by his outrage at the recent Rolling Stone cover featuring a photo many have said glamorizes the accused terrorist. Boston magazine's editor-in-chief wrote that Murphy has not been fired, but was relieved of his gun, badge, cameras, and police identification ahead of next week's review. NBC News has not been able to verify the report.
