Friendly Fire: 5 US Soldiers Die in Afghanistan

Five American special operations forces killed in southern Afghanistan may have been the victims of friendly fire, officials said Tuesday, NBC News reported. Defense and military officials said the soldiers had been working with Afghan forces. One Afghan soldier was also killed. The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement that the soldiers died when their unit came in contact with enemy forces Monday, but "there is the possibility that fratricide may have been involved." The police chief of Zabul province told NBC News that helicopters called in for air support mistakenly bombed an outpost.
