Magnitude-8.0 Earthquake Off Alaska Triggers Tsunami Advisory

An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.0 hit near Alaska's Aleutian Islands, on Monday, triggering a tsunami advisory for the coastal areas of Alaska. The nearest populated area to the epicenter is 15 miles away, and there, residents were warned to move inland to higher ground. The city of Adak on one of the islands reported water leaving the harbor at 2 p.m., as people moved to higher ground. Because the quake struck at a depth of 118 kilometers in a remote area, its tsunami was not considered significant.
