ISIS Fight a Battle Against “Twisted Thinking”: Obama

America's coalition battle against ISIS is also a battle against the group's "twisted thinking" — and that calls for stepped-up efforts to counteract ISIS' recruitment operations, President Barack Obama announced Monday. "This is not simply a military effort," Obama said. "Ideologies are not defeated by guns. They're defeated with better ideas." The U.S. will combat ISIS recruitment by encouraging largely Muslim countries to increase economic opportunities for young people drawn to the terror group's violent Islamist campaign. But he also warned that the multifaceted campaign against ISIS will be a protracted campaign. "This larger battle for hearts and minds is going to be a generational struggle," he said.
