9 Injured in Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre Crash During Concert

An elderly man struck a fence, another vehicle and several pedestrians, police said.

Nine people were injured in a chain-reaction crash outside a Southern California concert venue Saturday evening, according to the Irvine Police Department.

Around 6:45 p.m., elderly man driving through the parking lot of the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre struck a fence, another vehicle and several pedestrians, Irvine police Cmdr. Mike Hallinan said.

The car then struck a parked, unoccupied police vehicle, pushing it onto a lawn where it struck several people picnicking before Pacific Symphony, in Orange County, police said.

The Orange County Fire Authority treated nine people at the scene. Four people who were seriously injured by the patrol car were taken to the hospital, officials said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. There was no indication that the driver was intoxicated, and the driver was not arrested.

Several of those hurt were still in the hospital Sunday morning.
