Nigerian Schoolgirl Calls for Mercy for Boko Haram

One of the 276 mostly Christian girls in Nigeria kidnapped by Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram in April shared her story with NBC News. Mercy Paul, 18, who is now living a new life at a boarding school in Canyonville, Oregon, said the militants warned the girls that trying to escape could cost them their lives. "There was no way for us to run away," Paul said. "They told us they would kill us." Paul also said that while she loves and misses her friends still being held, her religion compels her to ask for mercy for the men who are holding them captive. "I pray that they find that god is forgiving and merciful and that they stop doing what it is that they're doing," Paul said. Read »

Calm in Ferguson; Arrests in Oakland, LA

Cold and calm descended on Ferguson, Missouri, late Wednesday after two nights of violent protests against a grand jury's decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in unarmed teen Michael Brown's shooting death. Demonstrator took to the streets for a third night across the country, and although most remained calm, others have been more unruly, including a demonstration in Oakland, California, in which protesters vandalized several businesses including smashing windows at the Oakland Tribune. Police arrested 130 demonstrators Wednesday night in downtown Los Angeles after officers determined the protesters were becoming a hazard to motorists. Read »
