Woman Laces Fussy Baby's Formula With Drug Used to Kick Heroin Habit: Police

Buprenorphine is a painkiller also used to wean addicts off heroin

Police say a Pennsylvania woman laced her baby's formula with a drug that helps heroin addicts kick the habit so he would sleep.

Allentown's The Morning Call reports 28-year-old Corinne Barndt told police she drugged her son's formula six or seven times from November to April when he wouldn't go to sleep.

The drug she is accused of adding to her baby's formula is buprenorphine, a painkiller also used to wean addicts off heroin.

The Haycock Township woman is charged with child endangerment and reckless endangerment. She remained jailed Friday, unable to post $1 million bond.

Online court records don't list an attorney for her. Barndt faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 8.

The 8-month-old's custody and health status isn't clear.
