Infographic: Facts About Father's Day in the USA

Dads across the country will get their day in the spotlight Sunday, as America celebrates all things fatherhood.

The Father's Day holiday's origins date back to 1909, when Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Washington, decided to honor her father, a widowed Civil War veteran who was raising his six children on a farm. She chose June 17 for the first celebration in 1910 because the date fell in the month of her dad's birth. In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day and President Richard Nixon signed the law that made the holiday permanent in 1972.

As Americans prepare to celebrate Father's Day this June 15, take a look at some facts and figures concerning dear old dad, as well as some of the most popular gifts people will purchase for their pops.
