Former Miami-Dade Home of Janet Reno Donated to Local College

The South Florida home where the late U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno lived will be preserved and donated to Miami-Dade College.

When the agreement becomes finalized, the ranch in the Kendall area will become part of the school's environmental center at the college's campus south of Miami, just a half mile away from the property.

The house was initially offered to the University of Miami, but the university couldn't commit to some of the conditions set forth by Reno's estate.

The rustic home on the property was built almost single-handedly by Reno's mother, former newspaper reporter Jane Wallace, in the 1940’s.

Attorney Alan Greer, who's representing the Reno family, says visiting the cottage is "like going back in time." The college declined comment on the negotiation process.

Reno died last November at the age of 78 following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, which she was diagnosed with during her time serving under the administration of former President Bill Clinton.
