Hidden Camera Found in Hammonasset Bathhouse

A hidden camera was found in one of the Hammonasset Beach State Park campground bathhouses in Madison, Connecticut, early Saturday morning.

Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) environmental conservation police officers removed the small camera device found that was disguised to look like a wall-mounted coat hook. The camera was discovered on the back of door in a handicapped bathroom accessible to men, women and children.

They posted fliers warning visitors and campers to be on the lookout in the event there are any more hidden cameras.

Police are bringing the camera's memory card to forensic experts to determine what's on it and are hoping to speak with anyone who might know who mounted the camera in the bathroom.

"It was a self-contained device so we're still waiting," said Col. Kyle Overturf of the DEEP Environmental Conservation Police. "We'll be working with either the state police forensic lab or another agency to try and determine if there is anything on the SIM card itself."

Authorities said there's no sign of a remote control or transmission from the bathroom to a recorder elsewhere.

No cameras have been found in any other bathhouses, according to the DEEP.

Police continue to investigate and are working to track down the person responsible.
