Bond Hearing Postponed for Jesse Matthew, Suspect in Hannah Graham's Abduction, on Reckless Driving Charge

A bond hearing for the suspect in University of Virginia student Hannah Graham's disappearance has been postponed.

Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr. was scheduled to appear Thursday in court on charges of misdemeanor reckless driving, but the hearing has been postponed until December at the request of his attorney.

Matthew, 32, is also charged with abduction with intent to defile Graham, 18, who has not been seen since she was captured on surveillance video in the early-morning hours of Sept. 13.

Earlier this week, Matthew's bond hearing on that felony count was postponed until December 4. Defense attorney James Camblos said he asked for the postponement but declined further comment.

Matthew, who had been expected to appear in court via video conference, is being held in the local jail without bond.

Authorities say he was charged with reckless driving after speeding away from a police station on Sept. 20. The reckless driving charge initiated a nationwide manhunt, leading to his arrest in Texas last week.

The search for Graham continues, with police adding drones to the effort. The devices have high-quality cameras that can give investigators a closer look over areas they can't reach on foot. Police started using them Wednesday in the Charlottesville area.

The Federal Aviation Administration granted emergency permission for the drones to be used. They are on loan from Virginia Tech.

Earlier this week, police announced that they have found a link between Graham's disappearance and the 2009 murder of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington, who went missing after attending a concert at the University of Virginia. However, they have not said what that link might be.
