Jogger Raped While Running Lower East Side Park: NYPD

Police are looking for a suspect in the rape of a woman who said she was attacked while jogging in a park on Manhattan's Lower East Side Wednesday evening. 

The woman told police she was jogging in East River Park near Jackson Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. when a man with dreadlocks grabbed her and dragged her into an amphitheater off the waterfront path. 

Once there, the man raped the woman, hen took her cellphone and credit cards, according to police. He rode off on a bike after the assault.

Police say after the alleged attack, the woman walked over a footbridge out of the park and borrowed a stranger's cellphone to call 911.

She was taken to Beth Israel Hospital for evaluation and treatment. 

The NYPD's Special Victims Unit is investigating the case and have released surveillance video of the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Paul Niles. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
