Texas Republican Elector Says He Won't Cast Ballot for Trump

Dallas paramedic Chris Suprun previously said he would support Trump

A Republican member of the Electoral College from Texas says he won't cast one of his state's 38 electoral votes for Donald Trump.

Dallas paramedic Chris Suprun previously said he would support Trump. But he said Monday that the president-elect's post-election attacks on the First Amendment and the American electoral process changed his mind.

Suprun told The New York Times, "I am here to elect a president, not a king."

He said he hasn't decided whom he will support, but would "strongly consider" someone like Ohio Gov. John Kasich. He said he won't vote for Hillary Clinton.

"I'm not sure if other electors will come forward or not," Suprun said in an interview Tuesday on MSNBC. "I am sure that there are other electors who are not comfortable with Mr. Trump, but I'm not leading a movement. I'm trying to have a clean conscience at the end of the day."

"Well, I'm very disappointed," Dallas County Republican Party Chairman Phillip Huffines told NBC 5.

Huffines said electors sign a pledge to support the party's winner.

"For an individual not to honor that commitment is very disappointing. You see, I think it's a publicity stunt," Huffines said.

Another Texas Republican elector, Art Sisneros, resigned last week rather than vote for Trump.

Electors will vote to replace Sisneros when they convene next week in state capitals nationwide to cast their ballots for president.
