White Sox Prospect's Sister Confirmed Dead After Vegas Shooting

The sister of White Sox prospect Michael Duarte was confirmed among the dead following the deadly shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas Sunday night. 

Christiana Duarte was attending the concert with Michael Duarte's girlfriend, but family and friends said they were unable to reach her following the tragic event. 

Family members say Christiana Duarte died in the Las Vegas shooting. She was a recent University of Arizona graduate who worked for the Los Angeles Kings. 

Michael Duarte requested privacy for his family. 

In the hours following the shooting, Michael Duarte tweeted photos of his sister, some captioned with a broken heart.

"LA Kings friends: Christiana Duarte was last seen at yesterday's concert in Las Vegas," the team tweeted Monday. "Contact (866) 535-5654 if you have any information."

An Arizona sorority, Arizona Sigma Kappa, was among those asking for the public's help to find Duarte before her death had been confirmed.

"Sigma Kappa has been made aware that a Zeta Omicron alumna from the University of Arizona, Christiana Duarte, is missing following the Route 91 Music Festival in Las Vegas," the group wrote on Facebook. "If anyone has made contact with her, we ask that you please reach out. As we await word on Christiana, Sigma Kappa is supporting our members praying for all those impacted by this senseless tragedy.

Michael Duarte was drafted in the 23rd round of the Major League Baseball draft by the White Sox as an infielder. He most recently played for the White Sox-affiliated farm club in Great Falls, Montana.

Sunday's shooting was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, with at least 59 killed and 527 injured, some by gunfire, some during the chaotic escape. Scores remained in critical condition Tuesday.

The gunman, 64-year-old high-stakes gambler and retired accountant Stephen Paddock, killed himself as authorities stormed his hotel room at the Mandalay Bay hotel casino.
