City Controller Posts Los Angeles City Employee Salaries

Salary information for nearly 37,000 Los Angeles city employees was posted online Thursday in a move City Controller Wendy Greuel said was designed to make local government more transparent.

The salaries listed in the database reflect reduced pay due to furloughs and other cutbacks, as well as increased pay due to overtime, bonuses, uniform and car allowances and other benefits, according to Greuel.

"Angelenos have a right to know how their taxpayer dollars are being spent, which is why I thought it was important for Los Angeles to set an example and post the salary of every city employee online," Greuel said.

The database is available here.

According to the controller's office, Los Angeles is the largest city in the country to post a comprehensive list of employee salaries.

Calls for such disclosure increased after news broke about exorbitant salaries being paid to most Bell City Council members and some top city administrators.
