GOP Hopefuls Gather for Education Summit

Six Republican presidential hopefuls are in New Hampshire to discuss elementary and secondary education policy.

Education news website The Seventy Four and the American Federation for Children are hosting the forum on Wednesday in Londonderry. Confirmed candidates are former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, former technology executive Carly Fiorina, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. The organizations are hosting a similar forum in Iowa, the kickoff caucus state, later this year.

Among the candidates attending the forum, several take views on public education that distinguish them from the pack. Bush, for example, has been criticized by Republicans for his support of the Common Core standards. Jindal, meanwhile, often talks about his efforts to boost charter schools in Louisiana.

Also due in New Hampshire on Wednesday is GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump. He is scheduled to hold a town hall at Pinkerton Academy in Derry at 6:30 p.m.
