Register by Monday, May 19 to vote in the June 3 statewide direct primary election.

Those "I Voted" lapel stickers, the ones you'll see popping up across the Golden State on Tuesday, June 3?

You won't get yours if you're not registered to vote. Of course, it isn't about the sticker but rather making a stand for the direction of our state in the years to come. (Okay, perhaps the sticker does serve to inspire others to get to their polling places and perform their satisfying civic duty.)

Register to vote by Monday, May 19 if you want to have your say in the upcoming California statewide direct primary election. The 19th is the fifteenth calendar day ahead of the election, the traditional deadline for registering.

The primary will cover a wide swath of candidates and issues. Voters will be casting their votes for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, controller, treasurer, and attorney general. Judicial seats, sheriff slots, and state senators are among the other choices people entering the booths will be making. LA County residents, don't miss your chance to weigh in on the closely watched Sheriff's race.

Fifty three seats for the U.S. House of Representatives will be on the day's ballots as well (that's every U.S. senator from our state).

Voters will also weigh a pair of state measures and the candidates in Los Angeles Unified School District Special Election.

So, where to register if you have not? California Online Voter Registration is a fine place to start. You'll need to supply some basics, like date of birth, social security number, and your California driver license number or ID card number. Read all.

You have until one second before midnight, Pacific time, to complete your registration.
