Cudahy Mayor Resigns Amid Bribery Investigation

David Silva's resignation as mayor of Cudahy was announced July 3.

The mayor of Cudahy resigned at Tuesday night's city council meeting in the wake of his arrest last month in an undercover FBI operation into bribery allegations.

David Silva's resignation was announced at the start of Tuesday night's meeting. The resignation comes after the arrest of Silva and two other Cudahy city officials, all of whom are accused of demanding and accepting bribes to approve the opening of a marijuana dispensary in the small city south of downtown Los Angeles

The complaint unsealed last month alleges that Silva, Councilmember Osvaldo Conde and Angel Perales, head of code enforcement for Cudahy, accepted bribes from a confidential informant. Court documents detail several meetings at nightclubs and restaurants with the informant.

The three men were arrested June 22.

Silva did not attend the city council meeting. His resignation was announced by Vice Mayor Frank Gurule.

Cudahy, with a population of about 24,000 in just over 1 square mile, is the second smallest city in Los Angeles County. It is just south of the city of Bell, where eight city officials were charged in a public corruption scheme.
