Bell Council Decides to Investigates Ousted City Manager

The Bell City Council met at 8 a.m. Friday, but this was not too early for angry residents who are calling for the council members to resign.

They showed up and made their feelings known even though the council did vote to investigate Bell's former city manager, Robert Rizzo, the city official who pocketed a salary of almost $800,000 a year.

Now, the acting city attorney, James Casso, wants to look at Rizzo's personal email accounts to see if he was using them to conduct city business.

City officials suspect Rizzo used such services to arrange $400,000 city loans to two companies without council approval.

Casso said the records will determine whether Rizzo engaged in "possibly unlawful and wasteful activities."

The City Council also voted Friday to terminate a contract to provide city services to its neighbor Maywood.  Maywood fired its municipal employees earlier this year after it could not get insurance.  Bell's contract will end in 30 days.
