Two months until the election and things are heating up. (Published Wednesday, Sep 8, 2010)

By all accounts the race for California's U.S. Senate seat is going to be a photo finish in race between Sen. Barbara Boxer and former HP CEO Carly Fiorina.

The latest survey shows Fiorina one percentage point ahead of Boxer.  That would be unheard of in the very blue Golden State of the past, but the political landscape has changed to say the least.

It began when Massachusetts voters elected Republican Scott Brown to fill Sen. Ted Kennedy's seat. The voters' frustration with a bad economy and a continued call to "throw the bums out," whoever those bums might be at the time.

The Rasmussen survey was taken Monday and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percent.

The same poll taken two weeks ago had Boxer leading Fiorina 49 percent to 44 percent.

Rasmussen calls the race a "toss-up."
