The LA Kings will trade purple for basic black, silver and white this season.
Kings Uniform History
Kings exec Luc Robitaille said fans have supported a change in color scheme. This year's uniforms will have a design similar to the Kings' late-80s uniforms.
"There was an overwhelming sentiment from our fans and from our players that has led us to this change," said Robitaille in a statement. "Our fans really like the late '80s- and early '90s-era Kings uniforms, which are very similar to this uniform."
The black alternate jerseys worn during the past two seasons will become the team's primary home jerseys. The logo is a shield with a small crown nestled under a prominent "LA."
New road jerseys will be primary white with silver and black trim. The "LA" logo will be in the middle.
"As a player, the colors give you an attitude and an edge," Robitaille said.
Purple says a lot of things, but attitude and intimidation are not among them. The color has played a recurring role in the team's history, starting in the late-60s era of "Purple and Gold."

The purple days continued until 1988. The new uniform introduction in August of that year coincided with the introduction of Wayne Gretzky. The Great One had just been acquired in a trade with Edmonton.
At a news conference, then-owner Bruce McNall approached the podium as Gretzky was waiting to be introduced and said, "And now, I'd like to go to the reason you all came... to introduce our new team colors. I think we have a model here."
Gretzky and his wife, Janet, walked out to applause.
The purple comeback began in the late-1990s. The team adopted a new shield logo with crossed hockey sticks over a crest.
