Mike Bolsinger Wins Battle of The Exes in 9-3 Victory at Dodger Stadium

Jimmy Rollins and Andre Ethier each hit a pair of three-run homers and Mike Bolsinger out pitched Rubby De La Rosa in Monday's 'Battle of the Exes' at Dodger Stadium.

Jimmy Rollins and Andre Ethier each hit a pair of three-run homers as the Dodgers bats awoke from their slumber in a 9-3 beat down over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night.

The game featured a "Battle of the Exes" as former Dodger, Rubby De La Rosa faced opposite former Diamondbacks starter Mike Bolsinger.

De La Rosa was signed by the Dodgers as a free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2007 and was traded to the Boston Red Sox in the middle of the 2012 season as part of the blockbuster deal that sent Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford to Los Angeles.

De La Rosa (4-3) was then acquired by the Diamondbacks last winter for Wade Miley. After an 8-0 thrashing in his first outing against his former team, the Dodgers once again demolished De La Rosa for their seventh consecutive victory over Arizona at Dodger stadium.

"We talk over and over about our starters keeping us in the game," Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said. "Tonight was the one night were Rubby just didn't give us a shot to stay in the game."

The Dominican right-hander allowed a career-high nine runs on 10 hits in five innings as he fell for the third time this season, and second consecutive time against the Dodgers. De La Rosa now posts a 12.60 ERA against his former team.

Los Angeles jumped on De La Rosa right out of the gate. Three consecutive singles in the first inning scored Justin Turner and the Dodgers had an early 1-0 lead.

Turner left the game in the top of the fourth inning after fouling a pitch off of his left kneecap. X-Rays were negative and Turner is listed as day-to-day.

"It's sore," Turner said after the game. "I got an X-ray that came back negative so that's good. I banged it on the ground diving on defense and that made it even worse."

Ender Inciarte snapped Bolsinger's string of 32 consecutive batters retired with a leadoff single in the fourth inning. It was the longest streak in Dodgers history since Jerry Reus retired 35 straight in June of 1982.

The Dodgers exploded in the bottom half of the inning. Alex Guerrero and Ethier hit RBI singles before Rollins blasted a three-run home run to right center to break the game open.

"Charlie Manuel used to always say in Philadelphia that it's not always about how many hits you get, but the number of hits you get when it counts," Rollins said. "Tonight I only got one hit, but it was a big one."

Batting in the seventh and eight spot in the lineup, Ethier and Rollins combined for seven of the Dodgers nine RBIs in the game.

"You never know where it's going to come from," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said of the run production from the lower part of the lineup. "You never know who's going to be on base, so each game is a different presentation."

Andre Ethier hit a three-run bomb with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 9-0. Ethier finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs in the game and hit his 153rd home run of his career, one short of Willie Davis for ninth all-time in Dodgers history.

"I was able to capitalize on his mistakes," Ethier sad. "J-Roll got us started there with a big homer. It's nice to see from 1-8, everyone swinging the bat well and contributing."

Bolsinger's MLB-leading run of consecutive scoreless innings at home was snapped at 24 after he allowed a two-run double to A.J. Pollock in the sixth inning. It was the first run Bolsinger had coughed up at Dodger Stadium since May 12th against the Marlins.

Bolsinger (4-1) was brilliant again for the Dodgers as the Diamondbacks 15th round draft pick in 2010 once again showed command of his curveball and off-speed pitches. Bolsinger allowed two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings.

"Before the game I went over there and said 'hi' to a bunch of the guys, one of them [Chase Anderson] I was best man at his wedding two years ago," Bolsinger said of facing his former team. "The way I think about it, they sold me for 5-6 million dollars, so that’s good."

Howie Kendrick made his first start after missing the last four games against the Cardinals with a right knee injury. Kendrick went 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the first inning and has reached base safely in every game against the Diamondbacks this season.

Game Notes:
Before the game, the Arizona Diamondbacks had the first overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft and selected SS Dansby Swanson from NCAA National Champions Vanderbilt.

Not to be outdone, the Los Angeles Dodgers selected Swanson's teammate and ace of the Commodores staff, Walker Buehler with the 24th overall pick.
