The Santa Clarita sprinter won gold after two consecutive silver medals

Santa Clarita's Allyson Felix came on strong in the final 100 meters to capture gold Wednesday in the women's 200m at the London Olympics.

Felix finished with a time of 21.88 to outrun strong competition from Gardena's Carmelita Jeter, who earned bronze, and silver medalist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price, of Jamaica.

Jeter crossed the line at 22.14 after kicking hard off the turn and gaining separation with about 40 meters remaining. Fraser-Pryce, the 100m gold medalist, finished .21 seconds behind Felix.

Sanya Richards-Ross, who won gold in the 400m, finished fifth.

Felix won silver medals in the event in Beijing and Athens. She twice finished second to Jamaica's Veronica Campbell-Brown, who was fourth Wednesday.

Campbell-Brown was trying to become the first woman to win the same individual track and field event in three consecutive Olympics.
