Lamar Odom will be wincing a lot the next few weeks, but his knee injury is not serious.

Whew.

Lakers fans everywhere can breathe a little easier after Lamar Odom’s knee got a closer look from doctors and very expensive medical equipment. What they found was a bone bruise — Odom will be limping for a little bit but does not mean surgery.

Lakers forward Lamar Odom was examined today by team physician Dr. Steve Lombardo and MRI results show that Odom has a bone bruise in his right knee. Odom will not play in tonight’s game in Oakland against the Golden State Warriors, and his status beyond that is listed as day-to-day.

Bone bruises take time to heal — maybe a week, maybe up to a month; it depends on the severity of the bruise. (The most severe cases can take a few months, but this doesn't appear to be that.) Trust us, you don’t want one because it hurts bad, hurts to walk or do just about anything. Complicating the healing is this is the same knee where Odom has tendinitis.

But the good news is there is no structural damage. That is great news for Odom, who is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season and doesn’t need to go under the knife right before asking for a big payday.

Odom got the injury in the second quarter in a collision with Chris Paul. He sat out the rest of the game.

Kurt Helin's crossover dribble was good enough to land him a desk job, from where he started the Forum Blue & Gold Lakers blog.
