Cardinals Come Back to Beat Dodgers 4-2 Snapping LA's Home Series Unbeaten Streak at 13

Zack Greinke gave the Dodgers another quality start on Sunday, but Los Angeles unraveled in the eighth inning as the Cardinals came from behind to beat the Boys in Blue 4-2.

Zack Greinke gave the Dodgers another strong outing, but Los Angeles unraveled in the eighth and the St. Louis Cardinals came back to defeat the Dodgers 4-2 on Sunday night.

The Cardinals came from behind for the 16th time this season and took three-of-four from LA to snap the Dodgers 13 consecutive series unbeaten streak at Chavez Ravine. The last time the Dodgers lost a series at home was August 15-17, 2014 when they were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Jhonny Peralta was the hero for St. Louis going 3-for-4 with two runs, a double, two RBIs and a home run, falling just a triple short of the cycle.

"It was important for someone to step up and get some runs," Peralta said. "It's good to come into Dodger Stadium and win these three games."

Yasiel Puig committed a costly error in just his second game back with the Dodgers after missing the last 39 games with a strained left hamstring. Puig misplayed a Matt Holiday hit down the fight field wall that slipped under his glove turning a possible single into an RBI triple for Holliday.

Justin Turner went 2-for-4 with a single, double and knocked in the Dodgers only two runs of the game.

Greinke (5-1) allowed one-run on six hits with eight strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. Greinke's only blemish was a four-seam fastball in the 6th inning that Cardinals shortstop Peralta sent into the left field pavilion. It was Greinke's fourth consecutive no-decision.

"It might not have been a smart pitch there," Greinke said of the homer to Peralta. "I was thinking if I get the ball away, he could get a hit, but not a homer. In the past, he would, but I haven't seen him to that in a while."

The Dodgers unraveled in the 8th after a leadoff walk by Adam Liberatore to Matt Carpenter brought in Juan Nicasio from the bullpen. Holliday followed with a hit down the line that Puig misplayed in the corner and the Cardinals tied the game at 2-2.

"The ball just got away from me," Puig said.

Peralta followed with a broken bat single and the Cardinals never looked back, cruising to a 4-2 victory over the final two frames. It was the 6th time this season the Dodgers have lost leading after the seventh inning.

Lance Lynn started for St. Louis and allowed two runs on six scattered hits over five innings. Kevin Siegrist (3-0) worked a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the victory for the Cardinals.

Trevor Rosenthal pitched a perfect ninth for his NL-leading 19th save of the season.

Game Notes:
Dodgers reliever Brandon League made his first rehab appearance in Class-A Rancho Cucamonga and allowed an unearned run on one hit, with a strikeout in one inning of work.

The Dodgers and Cardinals concluded their regular season against each other with St. Louis wining 5-of-7 against Los Angeles. The two teams will not face each other again this season.
