As far as omens go, this isn't very good: The day before the Dodgers begin their playoff run, a 59-year-old coffee repairman died in the Dodger Stadium press box.

John Foster, 59, was found lying on the floor of the press box Tuesday afternoon, Los Angeles County coroner's Lt. Fred Corral said. He did not respond to treatment by paramedics and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Foster, an employee of Farmer Brothers Coffee, had been working on the coffee machine in the press box.  Authorities had not yet determined a cause of death. The Dodgers and Cardinals were working out on the field when he died.

"We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Foster, as our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time," the Dodgers and Levy Restaurants said in a joint statement.

The Dodgers face the Cardinals in game one of the National League Division Series at 6:37 p.m. Wednesday.
