Corey Cogdell Unrein Shooting for Gold at 2016 Rio Olympics

Corey Cogdell Unrein can not only out-shoot her NFL player husband, she’s one of the best trap shooters in the world and is now on her way to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Unrein is looking to take home yet another medal as she heads into her third Olympic Games.

“Going into these Games I am extremely excited for what’s to come,” she said. “I am competing the best I ever have.”

Unrein is married to Chicago Bear Mitch Unrein, who is one of her biggest supporters.

“It’s pretty humbling when you are a 6-foot-4, 300-pound NFL defensive lineman and you are having a girl out-shoot you,” Mitch Unrein said.

But as Corey Cogdell Unrein heads to Rio for what she hopes will be her best Games yet, she will have to do it without her husband by her side. Mitch Unrein will be at training camp with the Chicago Bears and unable to make the trip, though he plans to host a viewing party for all of his teammates.

“They always give me a hard time,” he said. “They are like, ‘Your wife is way cooler than you are.’ And I’m like, ‘I know that, that is why I married her.’”

Growing up in Alaska, Unrein credits her father for her success in shooting.

“My mom passed away when I was young and my dad really took over raising my sister and that was a really tough situation and through that I became very mentally tough,” she said.

Corey Cogdell Unrein won a bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but this time, she’s going for the gold.

“I think it would be the world to my dad to see me win a gold medal,” she said. “He has been my number one fan and supporter ever since I was a little girl shooting BB guns and 22s. He 100 percent believes in me so I would love to win a gold medal for him.”
