Corey Seager Has Sensational Start, But Dodgers Fall to Padres 10-7

Corey Seager had an impressive debut, but the bullpen worries returned as the Dodgers blew a three-run lead, losing to the San Diego Padres 10-7 on Thursday night at Petco Park.

Corey Seager had himself an impressive debut, but the Dodgers bullpen hit a bump in the road, blowing a three-run lead in a 10-7 loss to the San Diego Padres on Thursday night at Petco Park.

The roller coaster game featured the MLB debut of number one prospect Corey Seager. The 21-year-old wunderkind did not disappoint going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

"It was a lot of fun, it would have been nice to win," Seager said. "At the end of the day it was a lot of fun. After the first groundball I had to calm myself down and after that I settled in."

The Padres tagged Mat Latos for four runs early, but bounced back with a seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-4 lead.

After a phantom call against the Dodgers and second baseman Chase Utley extending the sixth inning for San Diego, Yangervis Solarte crushed a deep home run off the top of the Western Metal Supply building in left field.

"He told me he didn't believe in the neighborhood play so I guess he changed the rules tonight and it something for the league to think about," a frustrating Don Mattingly said after the game. "I didn't realize he could actually change the rules during the game. "

Solarte destroyed the Dodgers finishing 4-for-5 with two doubles, and two RBIs on the night.

Jim Johnson the reliever the Dodgers traded for at the deadline to take over the setup role on the team, continued to struggle with the game on the line.

Johnson allowed a two-run home run to Jedd Gyorko, just the 11th of the season, and the Padres went ahead 8-7. Gyorko finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

"I was trying to get something up and over the plate," Gyorko said. "I fought off a couple of tough pitches. I thought I put a good swing on the first pitch of the at-bat and that kind of locked me in. I got a similar pitch and just didn't miss it."

The bullpen struggles returned after 26.2 innings over the last nine games revealed only two runs. On Thursday, the pen allowed six runs.

The loss snapped the Dodgers three-game winning streak, and ended a two-game losing skid for the Padres.

Matt Kemp hit a two-run single in the second inning to give the Padres the 4-0 lead. Kemp has been on fire in the second half of the season and now is third in the National League in RBIs with 89.
