Dodgers Misery Continues, Lose Sixth Straight on the Road

One night after getting no-hit by Mike Fiers, the Los Angeles Dodgers could only muster one-run for their ace Zack Greinke and lost their sixth consecutive road game 3-1 to the Houston Astros on Saturday at Minute Maid Park.

You know things aren't going well when a single hit gets your team excited.

One night after getting no-hit by Mike Fiers, the Los Angeles Dodgers could only muster one-run for their ace Zack Greinke and lost their sixth consecutive road game 3-1 to the Houston Astros on Saturday at Minute Maid Park.

The Dodgers awoke from their offensive slumber long enough to put together a string of hits in the sixth inning, but were only able to get one run across, their first run since Wednesday afternoon in Oakland.

"We have to figure out a way to string some at-bats together and put some runs on the board," Dodgers' manager Don Mattingly said of his team's struggles.

Seeking his 14th win of the season, Greinke (13-3) allowed just three hits. Unfortunately, two of them were home runs. Greinke allowed three runs over seven strong innings, but picked up his third loss of the season, increasing his ERA to 1.67 on the season.

"That's how their team plays," Greinke said of Houston's home run power. "A lot of good pitches, but I wasn't quite good enough today."

Jose Altuve was a thorn in Greinke's side as the 5 feet 5 inch second baseman is batting a career .500 against the former Cy Young Award winner.

"He doesn't strike out much. Today, he hit all three balls hard," Greinke said of Altuve. "Wrong game plan and good at-bats."

Altuve started the game with a triple to the gap in left center and scored two batters later after an error by third baseman Justin Turner.

Altuve finished 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple and two runs scored as Houston has won the first two games of the three-game series.

Luis Valbuena also hit a solo shot off Greinke in the bottom of the second inning, giving the Astros a 2-0 lead and an MLB high 168 home runs on the season.

The three runs were all Astros starter Scott Kazmir (7-8) needed as the wily left-hander who was acquired from Oakland at the trade deadline allowed one run on six hits in six innings.

Turner redeemed himself with an RBI single in the top half of the sixth. The hit was Turner's first in his last 19 at-bats, and ended a 22 inning scoring drought by the Dodgers.

Chase Utley recorded his first hit in a Dodgers uniform when he doubled off the right field foul pole in the fifth inning. Utley was traded to the Dodgers on Wednesday, and made his first start at second base on Saturday.

But, the one-run was the only offense the Dodgers could muster on the day as they squandered an opportunity to gain ground on the San Francisco Giants who lost to the Pirates earlier in the day. The Dodgers currently hold a 1.5 game lead over their rivals in the NL West.

Game Notes:
Jimmy Rollins leadoff single in the fourth inning ended a 13-inning hitless drought for Los Angeles.

Yasiel Puig returned to the Dodgers line up, starting in right field after missing the last two games with a right hamstring injury.

The game was delayed nearly twenty minutes as the Astros honored second baseman Craig Biggio byinducting him into their Hall of Fame.
