How could the Dodgers' thrilling two-out rally in the ninth last night been even better? Easy. Replace TBS announcers Bob Brenly and Dick Stockton with Vin Scully.
Thankfully, MLB.com did that for us. For the Dodgers ninth-inning rally, beginning with James Loney's two-out at-bat and ending with Mark Loretta's walk-off single, MLB.com combined the TV video feed with Vin Scully's radio call -- creating Dodger nirvana.
And really, who could provide a better call of the ninth-inning madness than Vin Scully?
On Loney's sinking liner to center that Matt Holliday misplayed into a two-base error: "Oh, what a big break. Matt Holliday had the game over, and somehow missed the ball with his glove. It hit him right in the groin, hopefully he's wearing a cup, and it landed right in front of him. You talk about a painful error for Matt Holliday."
On the at-bat pitting Dodgers first baseman Casey Blake against Cardinals pitcher Ryan Franklin: "Two beards battling it out. ... And we turn one more twist on the tension machine."
After Rafael Belliard's game-tying single: "And all Matt Holliday can do is stand out there and be the loneliest man in Los Angeles while 51,819 echo to the sky."
Finally, on Mark Laretta's game-winning single: "Loretta gets one into left center, it's gonna fall! Dodgers win it, 3-2!"
