Dodgers Send Four Players to All-Star Game, Kershaw Not One of Them

The Los Angeles Dodgers had four players selected to the Annual All-Star Game in Cincinnati, Ohio on Monday. Surprisingly, reigning NL MVP Clayton Kershaw was not one of them.

It was a proud moment at Dodger Stadium on Monday when the final rosters for the 2015 All-Star Game in Cincinnati, Ohio were announced before the opening game of a four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Among the players selected to the National League All-Star team (including reserves and pitchers), were four notable Dodgers: Adrian Gonzalez, Yasmani Grandal, Zack Greinke, and rookie Joc Pederson.

Pederson becomes the first Dodgers rookie since Hideo Nomo in 1995 to make the All-Star team, as he was voted fourth among outfielders by the fans. Gonzalez finished third among first baseman, Greinke was third among starting pitchers, and Grandal was selected as a reserve catcher by NL All-Star team manger Bruce Bochy.

To the chagrin of fans and baseball analysts alike, Bochy did not select reigning NL MVP and Cy Young Award Winner Clayton Kershaw as one of his three starting pitchers to make the team. Instead, Bochy selected World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner, AJ. Burnett and Michael Wacha.

Kershaw still has a chance to make the roster however, as he was selected by MLB as one of their five, "Final Vote" candidates. Cincinnati Reds pitcher Johhny Cueto, New York Mets reliever Jeurys Familia, St. Louis Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez, and Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki were also selected.

Fans can vote for Kershaw here, and we suggest they run, don't walk to their computers and vote for the 2014 MVP immediately. Kershaw (5-6, 3.08 ERA) leads the majors in strikeouts.

If Kershaw wins the vote, it would be his fifth consecutive All-Star appearance, tying him with Sandy Koufax and Fernando Valenzuela for most in franchise history. It also would give the Dodgers five All-Stars for the first time since 1995, when Mike Piazza, Hideo Nomo, Raul Mondesi, Jose Offerman and Todd Worrell all made the team.
