Man Sentenced for Mixing Fire, Celtics Jersey

A 22-year-old man is sentenced to 90 days in jail. The judge also orders him to stay away from Staples Center

The circus, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and the American Idols Live Tour -- just a few of the summer events that a 22-year-old LA man will not be attending at Staples Center.

Steve Quintanilla became the first person sentenced in connection with the downtown melee that followed last month's Lakers championship, authorities announced Thursday. He received 90 days in jail and an order to stay away from the Staples Center, site of the Lakers' victory June 17 over the Boston Celtics.

Cross X Games 16 off the list and find an alternative cure for Bieber Fever.

Superior Court Judge Karla Kerlin also sentenced him to a year of  probation. And because Quintanilla was on parole for felony grand theft in Kern County, he will serve an additional six months in prison for violating his parole.

Quintanilla pleaded no contest Tuesday to misdemeanor inciting a riot, said Frank Mateljan of the City Attorney's Office. Police said he set a Celtics jersey ablaze and encouraged others  to participate in the violence that erupted after Game 7.

Judging by images and video from the night of the violence, few needed encouragement.

Quintanilla was one of at least 45 people arrested -- 15 on felonies --  after the Lakers beat the Boston Celtics. Charges filed in connection with the violence include inciting a riot, disturbing the peace, resisting  arrest, throwing objects at a vehicle, vandalism, arson, assault on a police  officer, battery and public intoxication.

After the Lakers' hard-fought, come-from-behind Game 7 victory, some fans outside Staples Center jumped on cars, set fires, broke windows, tagged  buildings, vandalized property and harassed motorists and pedestrians.

Others went home to bed.

Investigators have used video of the melee to track down subjects.
