With veterans such as Lisa Leslie, Tina Thompson and Becky Hammon teaming up with the new school kids like Candace Parker and Diana Taurasi, the WNBA needs to start showcasing more than solid talents and community service.
The only time the WNBA has gotten solid publicity as of late would be the fight last year at the Los Angeles Sparks/Detroit Shock game.
Whether this is a positive or not, the WNBA gained new fans over a mere fight. Imagine if the women had fallen into a minor Harlem Globe Trotter's mindset.
Parker's solid dunks and Diana Taurasi's Jordan-like swiftness make for grounds of evolving the WNBA as a whole including no more contract waiving. I highly doubt the teams like being Farmers Insurance (Sparks) vs. Lifelock (Mercury).
It's understandable these women are role models for little girls and what not, but fights should not be tolerated in any capacity. Try giving some eye-catching fun for one televised game or better yet, a whole season: give the basketball fans what they want -- some zazz. I'm not saying sport the 80's NBA daisy dukes, but add the excitement factor that anyone can enjoy.
The proof is in the pudding and this could more than likely single-handedly save the state of women's basketball and not to mention do like Beyonce and "Upgrade."
It's time the WNBA broadened its horizons and potential. The fans will thank you.
