He Volleys and He Knows It

Millions of fans know Redfoo as half of the music duo LMFAO. But you may not know him as avid tennis player Stefan Gordy.

The "Party Rock" pop star surprised fans by making his debut in the Ojai Tennis Tournament on Tuesday at the Ojai Athletic Club.

Redfoo defeated Weil Tennis Academy junior Zhang Liang of China in his debut (7-5, 6-1). He then lost to Mbonisi Ndimande of Goleta (6-2, 6-0).

Between matches, he said he could handle the tension that comes with tournament play.

"I feel good that I'm able to adjust out there under pressure, I'm able to change directions and still command myself. My whole thing is taking care of my side of the court," said the pop music heavyweight. "I think I'll get more W's that way. Really just play my game. This is a] great first win, very excited."

While the frizzy-haired 38 year old's music is his claim to fame, with popular songs like "Party Rock Anthem" and "I'm Sexy and I Know It," Redfoo is no stranger to tennis.

His enthusiasm for the sport extends beyond the court, inspiring the name of the U.S. Tennis Association's Women's event: the Party Rock Open.

He previously played in the U.S. Open National Playoffs qualifier in Northern California and the Manhattan Beach Open Tournament in 2013.

Redfoo is dating WTA world-ranked No. 4 tennis player Victoria Azarenka. She made the trip to the Ojai Valley to watch her man play courtside.

Redfoo is the son of music icon Berry Gordy. His nephew Skyler Gordy, a.k.a SkyBlu, makes up the other half of their pop music group LMFAO.

Also playing in Tuesday's event was actress Elisabeth Shue. Shue is known for her roles in The Karate Kid, TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and her appearances in the Back to the Future franchise.

Both Redfoo and Shue are currently coached by six-time Ojai Open champion Lester Cook. This tournament is Shue's first.

"I've just been playing with Lester, and training for a while. But, I'm really not here to do more than just have the experience. I've never been in a tournament so this is my first one" said Shue. "[Lester] forced me, and said 'you have to go, and experience it. Just to have that experience."

As for Redfoo, he says he'll continue to practice and plans on returning to the court this summer.

Billie Jean King, Arthur Ashe, and Pete Sampras are among the tennis greats who have competed at The Ojai. The tournament is in its 114th year.
