Kobe Bryant is lovin’ life back on top.
He’s got the ring, he’s got the parades, he’s got the days at Disneyland, he’s got the triumphant trips to China and the adoration — and he’s got the lead in the best player on the planet debate for the summer.
Meanwhile LeBron James is only making headlines by getting dunked on by an undrafted college player (Jordan Crawford out of Xavier) at LeBron’s own camp then going all Watergate cover-up, which ends up making a far, far bigger story out of this than just releasing the tape ever would have.
And Kobe is right there to rub it in.
He’s at his camp telling a bunch of 12-year-olds (90% of whom will never be able to jump high enough to touch the rim) that nobody is going to be dunking at his camp. Kobe is not going to let the story die.
Kobe actually helped the LeBron got dunked on story get it started in the first place. Right after the story broke Kobe called Dwyane Wade and told him to call LeBron and start rubbing it in. You know, Olympic teammate to Olympic teammate. Just good-natured locker room ribbing. You don’t think Kobe means anything more by that, do you.
The thing is, you know that in the countless summer pickup scrimmages Kobe has played in, he has been posterized before. But he was smart enough to make sure that the cameras weren’t rolling.
You can add that to the Summer of Kobe over LeBron checklist, too.
