In place of the Los Angeles Lakers' logo, Kobe Bryant's memorable final game featured two special pieces of hardwood on the court: one with the no. 24 and one with the no. 8. Bryant started out wearing no. 8 and eventually finished his career wearing no. 24.
After the 60-point game, the newly retired Lakers' star walked onto the court and signed both pieces of the court. Now, the LA Lakers are auctioning off the section with the no. 8 with a starting bid of $10,000. MeiGray, the NBA's official game used memorabilia authenticator, is taking hold of the selling process, and the auction will run until May 13, 2016. No coincidence, Bryant retired exactly one month short of the auction's closing date.
Proceeds from the auction will go to benefit the Lakers' Youth Foundation, which is a 501(c)3 organization and official charity of the Lakers. So, yes, the winner will likely use this piece of history as a tax write-off.
The Lakers are also offering a raffle for 24 replica tickets from Bryant's final game, which have all been autographed by the five-time champion. Each raffle ticket sells for $10 and can be purchased at NetRaffle.org.
The autographed no. 24 section of the court will be a part of a display at the Lakers' new practice facility according to the team.
