Los Angeles Dodgers Drop Rubber Match to Mets 8-0

Yasiel Puig dropped a fly ball that cost the Dodgers two runs, and Mets rookie, Steven Matz, manhandled Los Angeles as New York blew out the Boys in Blue 8-0 in the rubber match of the three game series.

Steven Matz put on a show for the second consecutive start, as the Mets rookie manhandled the Dodgers potent lineup and New York blew out Los Angeles 8-0 to win the rubber match of the three game series.

It was just Matz's second game in the big leagues, but the Long Island native already looks like a seasoned vet. Matz dominated the Dodgers allowing no runs on just two hits, with eight strikeouts in six shutout innings on Sunday.

A week ago, Matz made his debut against the Cincinnati Reds, allowing just two runs in 7.2 innings of work. Matz also went 3-for-3 from the plate that day, becoming the first pitcher in MLB history to debut with four RBIs.

Matz went 1-for-3 from the plate on Sunday, and is now 4-for-6 at the plate in his young major league career.

The Mets knocked in eight runs on 15 hits in the rout of Los Angeles. Wilmer Flores went 4-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Flores has beaten up the Boys in Blue this series as he had three hits or more in each of the three games. Flores is batting .500 with two doubles, and six RBI since June 20th.

Juan Lagares also had a nifty game for New York as the centerfield went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored hitting in the nine-hole in the lineup.
