    USC swimmer Rebecca Soni will be heading to the 100m breaststroke semifinals as the second seed.

    Monday is a pool day for several Southern California athletes as Rebecca Soni and Tyler Clary attempt to qualify for the finals in their swimming events and the United States women's volleyball team takes on Hungary.

    Women's Volleyball: United States v. Brazil
    The United States knew entering the Olympics that their path to gold would have to go through powerhouse Brazil. The two teams will meet -- possibly not for the last time in this tournament -- Monday at Earls Court. The contest is a rematch of the 2008 gold medal match, which Brazil won 3-1  (25-15, 18-25, 25-13, 25-21). Logan Tom, Tayyiba Haneef-Park and Nicole Davis are three players with Southern California connections returning from the 2008 U.S. team.

    Women's Water Polo: United States v. Hungary
    Commerce hero Brenda Villa and the women's water polo team have a group stage matchup against Hungary. The U.S. has two silver and one bronze, but has yet to win gold in the Olympics.

    Women's 100m Breaststroke Finals: Rebecca Soni
    Soni's 1:05.98 was the second-fastest qualifying time, setting her up for a shot at gold Monday. After her junior year at USC, Soni won the 200m breaststroke in Beijing and was second in the 100m breaststroke.

    Men's 200m Butterfly Semifinals: Tyler Clary
    Fullerton's Clary has a qualifying heat early Monday, but stands a good chance of advancing in the 200m butterfly.

    Men's Beach Volleyball: Jake Gibb/Sean Rosenthal v. Poland
    Gibb, of Costa Mesa, and Rosenthal, a Redondo Beach native, play their second match at Horse Guards Parade. The two placed fifth at the Beijing Olympics.

    Women's Beach Volleyball: Misty May-Treanor/Kerri Lee Walsh v. Czech Republic
    The famed team of Long Beach's May-Treanor and Hermosa Beach's Walsh opened with a thrilling victory against a tough pair of Australians. They are going after their third consecutive Olympic gold medal.

    Women's Basketball: United States v. Angola
    The United States pulled away to win by double-digits in their opening round game against Croatia, but will expect a better performance against Angola. Chino's Diana Taurasi and the team are seeking their 20th gold medal.
