WNBA MVP Diana Taurasi led her Phoenix Mercury to their second WNBA title in three years, as the Western Conference Finals winners put the Indiana Fever to bed to capture the league championship 94-86 on their home court.

The Mercury picked up Game 4 earlier this week to push the series to 5 games, twice saving themselves from elimination to extend against the Indiana Fever. University of Connecticut three-time NCAA champion and WNBA superstar Taurasi dumped 26 points into the Mercury tank, adding to teammate Cappie Pondexter's 24 to sink the Fever.

Indiana's first finals appearance saw WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Tamika Catchings score 16, while fellow standout Katie Douglas struggled, going 4 of 14 from the field to bank only 13.

The game came down to its last minutes, as Catchings narrowed the Mercury's one-time 12-point lead to 2 points with 2:07 left to play. The Mercury came back, turning up the heat and sinking free throw after free throw to put the Fever out.

The 5-game series set the all-time points scored record for a WNBA championship series, capped off by the first game, which saw a 120-116 final score that was the single highest-scoring game in WNBA history.
