NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has backed off comments he made to NBC's Bob Costas about possible expansion and bringing a team to Los Angeles.
Los Angeles football fans excited over NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s comments about expansion to NBC’s Bob Costas Thursday had their hopes dashed Friday morning when Goodell backed off those comments at the annual “State of the League” Super Bowl address in Indianapolis.

On the debut episode of "Costas Live," which airs on the NBC Sports Network, Goodell said that the league does not want to move teams from their respective cities after Costas asked him about the league’s plans to put a team back in Los Angeles.
“Really, we want to keep our teams where they are, and that’s the dilemma,” Goodell said to Costas.
He added that the league would add two teams if it ever decided to expand, and that both stadium ideas have “great potential.”
”You probably wouldn’t go to 33, you’d probably go to 34,” Goodell said. “I think you would have to do it by two.”
However, Goodell said Friday that the league has yet to talk about possibly adding teams.
“We haven’t talked about expansion at all,” Goodell said at the State of the League. “I don’t see that in foreseeable future.”
Los Angeles has been without a professional football franchise since the 1994-95 NFL season.
Two groups currently have approved plans for a football stadium: Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns Staples Center, and Edward P. Roski, who is planning a stadium in the City of Industry. Development of both sites is pending the move or addition of a team in Los Angeles.
