Hours after several reports surfaced that Carmelo Anthony will be re-signing with the New York Knicks, Pau Gasol announced on Twitter that he has chosen to play for the Chicago Bulls.
"It hasn't been easy," Gasol said in the tweet, which he first posted in Spanish. "After meditating it a lot I've chosen to play with the Chicago Bulls. Looking forward to this new chapter of my career."
The Bulls have been looking to add more scoring weapons to their roster and have had several players in the running after a possible deal with their top free agency target Carmelo Anthony was reported to be off the table.
While the Chicago Bulls have not made an announcement about Gasol, several reports indicated they were finalizing a deal Saturday.
Anthony's representatives have not officially announced that he will be returning to the New York Knicks, but a deal with Gasol would likely take the Bulls out of the running for the All-Star forward.
Chicago was among several teams vying for Gasol-- including the Lakers, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.
